When I go to bed I turn on my C-PAP machine and strap on the mask so that I can enjoy the night time rest. Without the mask I would not sleep and as my Dr. eloquently told me 30 years ago, I would be dead by now. So I choose to wear it and really it has become a part of who I am.
What I do notice each morning is that there are imprint marks on my head from where the straps are tightened. They distinctly leave an impression that cries out to anyone who sees them that I wear a C-PAP to sleep. After showering and as the morning goes by they slowly fade, but sure enough, the next morning the marks are there!
I wonder how many people see the mark of Jesus Christ on our lives? Have you ever noticed when you have a spiritual high moment of a retreat, a concert and perhaps a powerful day of worship at your church that people see the mark of Christ on your face? There is a distinct presence of God that radiates from us when we stay close to God!
The down side to the spiritual upside is that the mark can fade. Perhaps the highs and lows of our walk with God need to be more well balanced. We need to walk with God all the time. We need to not depend on the spiritual highs or even Sunday morning experience to get us through the week We need to live a daily balanced life in our faith journey in the word of God, seeking God, experiencing God in all the life we experience. The mark of Christ on our face should be a permanent mark which does not fade away! Yes we need the high moments and yes we will experience the low moments but we need to tighten the straps of our Savior mask so that the mark of Christ never fades!
"That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." - Ephesians 4:20-24
I wear my C-PAP all the time so that I do not die. We need to put on Christ all the time so that we can live!
Peace,
PB
