A Morning View Near the Patio

I remember Danny, who was a camper at the summer camp where I grew up learning about Jesus and God's great love and forgiveness for us. Every week of every year at camp Danny would come forward when there was an opportunity surrender our lives in salvation to Jesus Christ. Ashamedly, the staff members would shy away from Danny because it was the same story every time. "He wasn't good enough and he just wanted to make sure he was going to heaven. He just wanted to get it right." We would explain that sharing an authentic yes to Jesus one time was enough and that living a Christian life was a journey, not a destination! But each time Danny was up front proclaiming his need for a Savior.
I must first confess my failure as a young Christian person serving at camp. I failed Danny. The attitude of "oh no here we go again," was so wrong. So God, and Danny please forgive me.
Today I wonder if Danny had it more right than the modern Christian? Danny had a yearning for God that was passionate and I believe authentic. He knew his heart and struggle and needed the forgiveness so he could move forward in Godly living. Danny understood his need for a Savior and passionately ran after God. He knew he was not good enough, he learned that Jesus was enough and he just wanted more because he wanted to be alright. What is so wrong with such passion? Many of the staff, including me, became weary with Danny.
Perhaps we need to become weary with the modern Christian. It seems that many are good with saying yes to salvation, but not so good seeking the Savior. There is a realization we need to confess our sin in the moment, but perhaps Danny had a better understanding than we thought about the passion within us to get it right and make sure we are living right by seeking more. Salvation is important! But like Danny, I want to go deeper, surrender all and each day proclaim my need for a deeper relationship with the Savior.
I wonder does God get weary with infant Christians who just drink milk? Friends, my challenge for us today is to seek with passion the gift of enough with Jesus. To go deep into the passionate love relationship afforded us at Easter. To live as Disciples of Jesus Christ and remember the urgency f Danny wanting to get it right! Yes, God is enough, but we cannot get enough!
Today I commit to be more like Danny! Each day when I get up, like Danny, I want to proclaim my need for more of  the Savior in my life each day.
Friends, become a Danny Christian and be sold out!
“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.” - Philippians 2:12-18
Peace,
PB

If you proclaim Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then I must ask you a question. Are you seeking the deepest possible intimate relationship with God that you can ever experience on this earth? Because I know what I am about to say to be absolutely true. If you are not and if you are pursuing anything other than God you will not ever be satisfied and ultimately any other relationship will fail. It does not matter how deeply connected with another person you are without God it will fail. Failure may not mean completely walk away, failure can mean that a relationship will not be what it is intended to be and you settle for it because at least it is there, it's the best I can do, it could be worse and for many other reasons.  We are created to be in relationship with one another. We have many relationships and many depths within those relationships. We have social relationships. We have relationship with many forms of addiction and substitution. We have friends and we have FRIENDS...

A Morning View From the Balcony at OBX

So far the weather has not been at its best for us. It is a very cloudy morning. It is rainy with a good chance of clearing up later in the day. But as I sit here this morning I noticed that it does not matter if it is sunny and clear, partly cloudy or even ugly storm cloudy, the sun comes up. We just need to decide how to navigate the day!  Our lives are the same. We need to decide how to navigate each and every day we face. It does not matter what we face, if it is sunny and clear, partly cloudy or even ugly storm cloudy, we still have another day to live and the Son is with us.  I know to some of you this sounds like a no brainer message. Well of course PB, this is the day the Lord has made! Everyday is a great day. To others this is such a difficult message to swallow. It becomes a difficult task to simply tie your shoes. We are all different in our view and response and it is alright to be different.  But please recognize that the sun does come up no matter what. Als...

A Morning View By the Wood Stove

I really struggle with what I see and experience in our world today. I say this and am really not sure it is the world as much as it is our country.  I guess it is not so much our country, but with those who proclaim and profess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. I realize in my setting I am making blanket statements, so this is not intended as an attack on anyone, but as a thought provoking moment for everyone.  My heart has been impressed with proclaiming what it means to be a Christian. I grew up with a checklist and if I did not check the proper blanks, I was not a good Christian. I have found out that living that way is full of a bunch of lies and a dangerous understanding of perceived salvation. I believed that there was no way God could ever forgive me for what I have done and who I have been. Again a dangerous lie. I see and read comments people make about issues, government, religion and their faith in Jesus Christ and I cross reference what is said with how Jesus l...
