Are you in a place where you are tired, afraid, lonely and just plain worn out? Does your world seem to be crashing all around you? Just when you start to move one step forward you take two backward? It seems like anything that can go wrong does? Fear grips us and the unknown future shakes our foundation. Voices all around us are giving us advise, some good, some bad and who should we believe? Perhaps you feel attacked........lost.......unloved.......and all alone?
When we find ourselves in the midst of these feelings we often scramble for anything we can get ahold of. Perhaps we turn towards the temporary pleasures of the moment to bring some satisfaction. Just one more cookie or another drink will deaden my emotions. If I can just feel good for a few moments, the temporary pleasure will replace the pain of my soul. If I were just gone everything will be alright.......
430 years of slavery became normal for the Israelites in Egypt. Moses led them out to go to the Promised Land. The journey was difficult and at times seemed impossible. It was not an easy journey and I am sure all of the thoughts and feelings I shared at the beginning , and more, were prominent in the hearts and minds of the Israelites. In fact the people told Moses that at least when they were in Egypt, they were alive. How did Moses reply?
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” - Exodus 14:13-14
We know the story, miracle after miracle happened and God led them through the difficult journey to the Promised Land. Often our humanness does not align with our Godliness. Perhaps we need to surrender our trust, hope and faith to God by being still and allow the Lord to fight for us? He led the Israelites to the Promised Land, where will God lead us?
Peace,
PB
