When we go out we dress for the event we are attending. We must look our best for the place we are going. I remember once when my wife and I attended a Christmas party for her work. I fussed about what to wear. I had no clue how to dress for this social situation. It was business casual, so I wore a really nice button up sweater with a polo shirt underneath. When we arrived, I was so underdressed. I really felt out of place. I was not treated poorly and I never felt looked down on, but I did not dress for the occasion. I was not well prepared for that event.
Every day we put on an attitude to wear wherever we go. Our attitude is influenced because of an experience past or present or something we read which did or did not set well. We had someone say something to us that brought joy or sadness. Perhaps we just feel a certain way because we woke up feeling that way. But I think it is important for all who proclaim Christ to start acting like the Jesus we proclaim.
Perhaps instead of allowing the influence social media, political systems, justice issues and personal daily struggles and influences dictate what we wear, we need to step up and wear the garments of the glory of God no matter our circumstance. I understand that we cannot turn away from the issues of our world and lives in ignorance waiting for them ti go away. But what we wear and how we respond as Christ followers should be clothed in the same garments, with the same spirit and the same approach. We should always respond dress in the wardrobe God has chosen for us with love the top item we put on.
“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”
- Colossians 3:12-114 Message
Here is a novel idea. For you who wave our Christian banner, how about we live like it in all we say and do? Wear the wardrobe God has chosen for us. Act like the Christ you proclaim with your mouth.
Peace,
PB
