Leadership is difficult. I believe leadership is developed with relationship. Relationship develops a better understanding of each others hearts. Sharing from the heart is one of the most authentic ways to share the love of Jesus Christ. Leading with the heart makes one vulnerable to disappointment when no matter what one does someone else will tell you it is not the right way to do something. Leading with the open, honest, vulnerable heart is absolutely authentic, sincere and transparent. Leading with the open, honest, vulnerable heart can also be painful, discouraging and frustrating. When leaders lead from the heart, there has been much prayer, consideration for everyone and selfless motives for success.
Mark 12:33 lets us know that we store love in our hearts. Matthew 18:35 reminds us to forgive one another from the heart. Luke 6:45 tells us what we have stored up in our hearts is what comes out of our mouths. I ask myself what do I have stored up, good or evil? Psalm 119:11 encourages us to store up scripture in our hearts. While Jeremiah 29:13 tells us to seek and find God with all our hearts.
The heart is vital to our human condition. The heart is vital to our spiritual condition. The heart is vital to the success of relationship. The heart is vital to leadership.
The heart is also vulnerable. Guard your heart and while in relationship, guard the heart of others.
“My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:20-23
