I recently had a situation where I was praying a very specific selfish prayer for what I wanted. I had shared my prayer desire with a staff member at my church because it impacted her area and she basically smiled at me and said, "Rather than pray for what we may think we want, why don't we ask God to provide the best answer to our situation." I jokingly, sort of, answered and said NO, I want what I want! I hate to admit, she was right. So I did take her approach to the prayer and go figure, God is in the middle of working out the situation in a way I never could have done on my own.
We have limited vision in our own right. God sees the bigger picture and takes care of all the details of what is before us. God will take care of us if we are willing to truly surrender selfishness and trust the promises of God.
When we get out of the way and trust the One we proclaim with our mouth, it is so refreshing and amazing to see the Mighty Hand of God swoop in bigger and better than we can ever imagine!
"My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God’s Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he’s listening. And if we’re confident that he’s listening, we know that what we’ve asked for is as good as ours." - 1 John 5:13-15 - The Message
