Yesterday we did a creative lighthouse tour. We drove to five, one of which we could not get to, different lighthouses in the general area of Lakeside. Upon arrival at each one we were given a piece of paper and colored pencils with a challenge to draw the lighthouse on that paper from our perspective. Just draw, no competition and art skills did not matter. Draw from what each one of us saw. The results were very interesting.
I am not, nor ever will be an artist. Honestly I played nice in the sandbox and participated because it was a family activity and the right thing to do. I will deny I ever said this, but I had fun doing this with everyone! So I drew and colored as I saw each and every lighthouse. I turned in my finished product and honestly enjoyed the moment.
What we saw was very interesting. Each one of us, from 7 to 72, saw the same lighthouse from a different perspective. We focused on what we saw and experienced. There were different parts of the surroundings we included in the picture because of our perspective. Each detail was unique to the artist in each picture. Yet we all drew a representation of the same lighthouse.
Friends, this is why we need the Body of Christ. We can all experience the love, grace and forgiveness from the Father through the Son and live in the presence of the Holy Spirit, yet see and experience the Holy Trinity from who we are influenced by our own uniqueness and experience of God. God meets us where we need God to be.
I do believe we all need to begin with the common foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as our starting point. Our family all started with drawing the same lighthouses! But how we see and experience God is unique to who we are in Creation and where we are in our life journey.
By the way, as redeemed children of God created in the image and likeness of God, you are each a lighthouse of love for the world to see! You are unique from someone else's perspective to see and experience the Christ who dwells within you! Remember to shine your special beam of light for the Lord!
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:14-16
