Christmas Eve we celebrate everything which was happening as the baby Jesus was born. We magnify the events and focus on the shepherds in the fields with the Angel of the Lord. In my mind this was a huge event with all of creations partying and celebrating the birth of the Messiah. Yet the reality of the scripture was that it was a quiet personal moment with Mary, Joseph and Jesus. It was a routine birth where at the end Mary just took care of her baby boy. Yes the shepherds had their experience, but Jesus was born in a very simple place without the glamour of a king.
“And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.” - Luke 2:6-7
Perhaps we should learn from this to quietly sit and ponder the simplicity of the birth moment. Mary had delivered the Savior of the world and she wrapped him up in cloth, laid him in a manger and quietly took in the moment of all that had happened.
Sometime tonight I invite you to ponder the birth of the Savior within you. Quietly remember the peace and freedom of the baby becoming real and personal to you. Pause in the moment remembering how the simplicity of relationship with God because of the Son has changed your life. Give thanks to God because God has chased your yes throughout your ages! Be free and fresh in your soul because of the baby.
Peace,
PB
