The Tuesday after Easter.
The excitement of the symbolic resurrection moment has turned into the regular remembrance of the day.
Ash Wednesday with sackcloth and ashes. 40 days of Lent searching deep inside our hearts. Holy/Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and then the Resurrection Celebration.
There was distanced corporate worship and safe celebration parties with family and friends after so many days of social distancing. It is good to have hope in a risen Savior and the companionship of family and friends. Monday was a great day to recover and remember our good time.
Then Tuesday comes. The excitement and anticipation are gone. We go back to our regular routine. The world is still the world and our lives, though greatly impacted because of the empty tomb become "real" again.
But why is real what it has always been? Why do we go back? I struggle so hard to walk away from the past. The same old same old, even though it may not be good or positive, is what becomes normal and in a sad way comfortable. All of the sadness of life, people suffering and negative situations kick back in and we often choose to look away from the empty tomb and only remember the ugly cross.
Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he reminded Martha who he is.
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” - John 11:25-26 NLT
Perhaps we need to remember who Jesus is and who we are in a resurrected new life with Jesus Christ. I know I need to better focus on the empty tomb in my life and stop wallowing in pity at the cross. Jesus died and was resurrected so we might live. No matter the difficulties of the life you are living, you can choose to remain resurrected.
Peace,
PB
