I recently had a situation where there is a person who was upset with the way things were being done. That person never spoke to me about it and my attitude towards this person was, shall we say, not a very positive attitude. Finally, I had an opportunity to talk with this person about something else I saw that could help them in another area of their life and guess what happened? They told their story and I learned much about this person. I saw them in a different light. Eventually the conversation turned to the other issue which was never discussed before and we had a pleasant conversation which ended in an understanding of one another. We were able to compromise and walk away in a good place.
“For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 NLT
Even when I may not want to, I need to encourage and build up those who may seem to be my enemy as well as those who are my friends. When Jesus tells us to love our enemies, I believe this is an example of what he meant. My attitude walking away from the situation was much more positive than ever before.
Peace,
PB
