I recently played in a golf scramble and on one of our better holes, one person hit a great drive. The second person put us in a great position to score well and the third person sunk a fairly long putt for the birdie. I was the fourth person and I cheered them on and wrote down the score! All four of us contributed on that hole. It was a team effort and no matter what we contributed, we all contributed to our success.
As rationally and unbiased as possibly can be, I sit back and take a snapshot of the Body of Christ today and what I see is extremely disturbing. I see Christian unity amongst individual parts of the Body of Christ. Those we agree with we are a part of and those we disagree with we are not. There is little evidence of teamwork together to share Jesus Christ in the world. It feels like there are pockets of Christians, or at least those who say they proclaim Christ, focused on selfish gain for God, perhaps even giving glory to God and yet fighting the other parts of the Body to prove who is right or to have things go their way.
What would happen if all Christians came together with one heart, one mind and one soul and began to love the world together? Like the golf scramble team, what if we all contributed to the goal of success for the team instead of doing it all alone? How amazing the results would be.
Since we all are the Body of Christ together, if we worked together, I am guessing the picture of Jesus Christ the world would see would be a beautiful representation of Jesus. I do not believe the portrait of Jesus we see today is all that attractive to look at. Just certain parts of it all because of God and less because of us.
“So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” - 1 Corinthians 12:24b-27 NLT
I have an idea, why don't we scramble together with what we bring for Jesus, put it together and score birdie after birdie to represent Jesus Christ! Go Team Jesus!
Peace,
PB
