A Morning View Near the Patio

I wonder what heaven will really look like? Have you ever wondered? Will people who attend the right church, read the right translation of the Bible, give large sums of money and make sure they keep the rules lead the way? As I watch the news and read about the USA I think I see that what political party one belongs to makes a difference? Maybe just being good and helping others gets us there? How about God's chosen people, the Jews? Will it just be the elect? Perhaps people who hold leadership positions in the local church will lead the way? Maybe pastors have a corner on the entrance into the gates? Does the color of skin, family heritage, economic privilege or the country one was born into help us make it? 

Perhaps it might just be the leper who said thanks, the widow who gave all she had and what if it was only the thief on the cross who made it at the last minute of his life? What about the boy who gave his lunch to feed many? Perhaps the Samaritan who broke all of the cultural rules and helped someone whom culturally he would despise? Fishermen, prostitutes and the woman caught in adultery? In heaven? 

The jailer asked Paul and Silas what he must do to be saved. "Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household. ” - Acts 16:30-32 NLT

Who shall we see in heaven? ALL who call upon the name of Jesus! ALL who believe in the Lord Jesus! ALL regardless of ethnicity, status, position, power and wealth. ALL who are from many different nations and have varying pigments of skin color. ALL means ALL who repent and seek relationship with Jesus Christ and believe. 

“After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!” - Revelation 7:9-10 NLT

Heaven will be a beautiful place of ALL!

I typically am not a big breakfast eater. Every year at Lakeside for Annual Conference there is a group of men who invite me to breakfast at The Patio. Every year I go one time and enjoy talking and joking with this group and every year I order the same breakfast, a plain toasted bagel with cream cheese and a glass of water. It is tradition, you know! I often get asked why I do not order something different? My answer is, "if something is good and satisfies my hunger, why should I order something different? A Morning View By the Patio

When I was a young boy we lived in the country and I had to become very creative in how I played. Much of the time I was alone and hd to create imaginary situations so that there were "others" around me. I would also "become" someone else and emulate everything they did. I would know them, study them and learn all I possibly could about them and then become them. One of the people I "became" was Wilt the "Stilt" Chamberlain. At the time he was a famous Los Angeles Laker NBA star. I always wanted to become Wilt. I practiced his famous hook shot, watched him play on TV and learned all of his moves. I had some of the most amazing NBA battles all alone in my uneven gravel driveway. In my mind I was Wilt the "Stilt" Chamberlain. There were a few drawbacks in becoming Wilt. A Morning View From the Patio

I have been gently encouraged by someone who was nudged by the Lord to make a list for the next week of positive characteristics which make me who I am.   Today I begin with compassion. I truly strive to be compassionate with everyone I encounter. I desire to reach out and care when others are struggling. Even if I encounter someone who has hurt me in the past or I may not connect with, I try to put aside differences and find a way to share compassion with them. After all, Jesus was compassionate all the way to death. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Peace, PB
